30 things

As any momma can relate, I am always in tune with my children's needs and who they growing up to become. So aware of all of their favorites and dislikes, and busy planning out things that will bless + grow them. My family is my whole world. I thought that turning 30 would be a good excuse to take a step back and write out a lighthearted list of who I am. Because sometimes, I just don't know. This isn't too deep, people. Because this is my blog, and not my personal journal. So here it is. 30 things about Megan Bethany Brown Farr.

And at this point, if reading thirty whole things about my own self seems stupid, you may now exit to go climb a tree.

1. I have Honda loyalties.

2. I'm Italian. OK so I'm only like, 1/4 Italian, but it's something. And I count it for a lot, because

3. I love Italian people. Their language is romantic. They're loud and proud and emotional and intense and sincere.

4. I've learned that being kind is more important than being sarcastic. I don't claim to always have a kind heart. If you've known me for any length of time chances are you've prob witnessed my temper or my sarcasm. Being nice is just better. No matter the situation. No matter to whom.

5. I notice the little details in life, but also have a hard time looking at the big picture.

6. I hear harmonies in songs... And like I know it's super annoying to people when I start singing the harmony to every ding dang thing I hear, and I am sorry for this. But it needs to be sung!!!!

7. I. LOVE. roller coasters.

8. I is what I is. Imperfect and very much in need of Jesus.

9. I have only about a handful of close friends; and I'm SO ok with that. The ones I do have are amazing gems + I treasure them each. And all life-long friendships, for sure.

10. More than missing out on a good deal, it pains me to see things go to waste. (Especially meat.)

11. I have this thing for flamingos. They're skinny, knobby, awkward, pink, and have big beaks and long necks. // I can identify with that.

12. Wildflowers always win over red roses.

13. I love to cook for Jonathan. His enthusiastic appreciation for a home cooked meal makes it a joy for me to cook.

14. I can't tolerate a scary movie. And romantic comedies make me cry like an emotional mess. Yeah; I'm THAT girl. They get me every time. Hashtag ridiculous

15. I've never smoked. Anything. Ever.

16. Any food is amazing as long as it has cheese.

17. I loveee the summer. Salt water, a warm breeze and the heat of the sun on my skin is true medicine to my soul.

18. I always wear sunscreen. If I know I'll be outside for a length of time, I have to wear it. Skin cancer = not cool.

19. Ray LaMontagne. Mm. That is all.

20. My very most favorite sound in the world is the sound of my children breaking out in uproarious laughter.

21. Whether in a pool or creek or lake or ocean, I get my hair wet. Life's too short to be prissy about my hair! If you're gonna get wet, get wet all the way.

22. If see an open field, a round off is gonna happen.

23. Subtle, passive insults bother me to the core. In my 30 years I've learned (sometimes the hard way) that passive-aggressiveness feels really good for the first second I deliver a comment (or hit the "like" button on someone else's smart ass comment), but it leaves the recipient feeling like [doggie-doo]. It is mean and rude and cowardly, too.

24. Always have been, always will be, obsessed with patterns and colors. Sometimes the very best patterns and colors I can think of, come to me right before I fall asleep. And I feel like I have to write it down (but never do) so I'll never forget them. Don't judge. ;)

25. I love to dance to old school boy bands.

26. I am a nervous wreck if I think too long and hard about making a big life decision.

27. Probably why: I tend to be impulsive. (So grateful for my discerning husband who is not at all this way.)

28. I flip out with excitement when I see a Good Year blimp. It has been this way for my whole life.

29. I love my family dynamics. I am 18 years older than my youngest sister, Summer. I'm 17 years younger than my step dad. Summer is 5 years older than my daughter, Sky. And they are best friends.

30. In the next 30 years I want to learn to be more crazy + more wise. Carefree, but discerning.

hello. goodbye. firsts. and lasts.

A little update on our simple little life.

"Enjoy the little things in life. For one day you'll look back and realize they were the big things."

That little quote by Mr. Author Unknown has been so true for me as a momma these past 5 years. We don't go on a ton of vacations or extravagant adventures. But we make lots of memories doing simple stuff, and lately this has meant a lot of "firsts and lasts" for us.

Sky's last day of school:

So did ya hear?!! We're going to be homeschooling for first grade! And by we, I mean I. ...I am going to be homeschooling.... and that's terrifying to me. But terrifying in a good way- like- I'm really super excited. And nervous, because this girl is a smart cookie, and that intimidates me a little. But mostly just excited. We're going to have fun, and learn lots of great things and discover who God is through things that we learn. Despite how much she truly loved the primary school, she is so thrilled to be coming home to learn. And that makes this huge life-altering decision such a joy for me.

This leads right into our next bigger piece of news. This month was our last month as Covenant Life Church. We have so many mixed feelings about this, because of all that Cov Life means to us as a family. Jonathan has known no other church but this one. This is the place where Jonathan and I met. The place we went to school, and grew up. The place where my parents got married, and where WE got married. But with us homeschooling this coming year and with our children getting older, it's become increasingly important that we attend a church more local. It would be extremely difficult for me to home school our kids if I don't have friends nearby to do life with. We also want so much to be a part of our church, the way that Jonathan and I were when we were growing up. And it's just not been possible with us living in Frederick. We're excited about our new church so close to home, but right now we only know a few people there. If you're the praying type, we'd appreciate prayer during this transition. I know that in time it'll feel like home, but right now we're the new people. :)

Gray's first big boy "bed":

So far, so good! We took the rail down off his crib about a month ago, and so far he hasn't gotten out. Like, not even once. He wakes up in the morning and shouts, "MOMMY, DADDY, I'M READY TO GET UP!" and waits for us to come in and get him! .....I know, right?! Such a good boy. Most of the time.

Gray's first super-short cut:

Isn't he handsome?! He's had long hair since he was a baby:

He def flipped out the morning he woke up and remembered his long hair was gone. He begged me to "put his hair back".  --> He's over it now.

My first time baking eggs:

We Farrs love us some eggs. ;) I just scrambled eggs in with my favorite omelet ingredients, and baked in a mini dish at 375 degrees for 15-20 mins max. Bam.

First day horseback riding at Gigi's house:

She did so well! She came home telling me all about her adventures at her horsemanship class at my mom's. :) I loved watching her face light up as she trotted over to me with pride.

During Sky's horsemanship week at my mom's camp, we had a minor catastrophe. Which I'm sure everyone and their mom has already read about all over Facebook: Gray had a MAJOR diaper accident while we were killing time at the library, which lead to:

THE VERY LAST TIME I'll ever forget to bring enough diaper wipes with me.

This has also been a huge month of reflection for me. It's my last month of my twenties, and I'll be turning thirty on the 17th. For a while I had been just dreading my birthday. I know I'm ridiculous but turning thirty felt scary at first. Now, I just feel ready. I've worked hard to get here and God's been so faithful to me. I have a wonderful husband, two beautiful children and a lovely roof over my head. Welcome, 30.
